Rehabilitation of Flood Victims and Diocesan Diamond Jubilee

E-mail Print PDF

1. Relief for flood victims:

With a substantial contribution from Caritas India, the guidance from KROSS and the assistance from convents, institutions, friends and well wishers, we have been able to provide relief and medical assistance to about 4,500 families affected by the unprecedented rains in early October. We thank BDDS, the institutions and the parish priests who helped in providing immediate relief to the victims. The challenge ahead is to rehabilitate those who lost their houses and crops. We urge all the parish councils, institutions and individuals to continue to provide assistance to the flood victims. Everything in our capacity will be done in that direction under the aegis of BDDS.

2. Year of Priests: Seminar on Priests and Divine Worship:

We are happy to announce a seminar on ‘Priests and Divine Worship’ which will be held on Nov. 25, 2009 at St. Anthony’s Community Centre. Noted liturgist, Rev. Dr. Arokiaraj of Tiruchirapalli diocese will animate the sessions. The programme will begin at 9.30 AM and end at 8.00 PM with an agape. All the priests, both the Religious and the Diocesan are hereby requested to attend the programme without fail. In case one is unable to attend due to a grave reason, may inform the Bishop in advance.

3. Diocesan Diamond Jubilee:

The Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Diocese will be held on Epiphany Sunday, Jan. 03, 2010. It will be an opportunity to deepen our Catholic faith, to grow, to witness and to share it. We urge all our Diocesan Priests, the Religious and the Lay Faithful to pray for that the event becomes a privileged moment of grace for the entire Diocese. Some of the main features of the celebrations would be as follows: 3.1 The Diamond Jubilee Rath will visit all parishes, bringing the Diamond Jubilee message. The programme will be coordinated by Fr. Jose Prakash. The Rath will be welcomed at the church gate, the procession will move to the church where there will be a prayer service, a penitential rite, prayer for anointing by the Holy Spirit, benediction etc. More details and the itinerary will be sent by Fr. Jose Prakash. 3.2 The Diamond Jubilee Day: It will be celebrated on Jan. 03, 2010 at Bellary. All the Diocesan Pastors, the Religious and the Lay Faithful are most cordially invited to participate in the solemn thanksgiving Eucharist which will be held at 4.00 PM at the Arogya Mathe Shrine, Bellary. Cardinal Telesphore Toppo will lead the celebrations and Archbishop Bernard Moras will preside over the thanksgiving Eucharist. The evening celebration will include the Thanksgiving Eucharist, blessing of grottoes of the mysteries of the Holy Rosary, a short procession, a benediction and a presentation on the growth of the Catholic Church in Bellary. 3.3 Animation “to grow, to share and to look ahead”: A full day animation session will be held on the Diamond Jubilee Day for all the Pastoral Clergy, the Religious and the members of the Parish Pastoral Councils on Jan. 03, 2010. The members of Parish Pastoral Councils from outside Bellary may come on the previous evening, that is, Jan. 2. In order to foster greater spirit of sharing, we urge the Catholic families of Bellary to give hospitality to the delegates coming from distant places. 3.4 Follow up in Parishes and Institutions: All the parishes and institutions in the Diocese thereafter will hold similar programmes locally to “deepen, to grow and to share the Catholic faith”. The respective parish Pastoral Councils will take responsibility to organize the same. 3.5 Sunday Collection of Dec. 06, 2009: In order to defray the cost of the modest celebrations, we hereby request all the parishes to send the Sunday collection of Dec. 06, 2009 to the Diocesan Finance Officer by Dec. 15.

4. Advent 2009:

The Season of Advent will commence on Nov. 29. We urge all the Pastoral Clergy, the Religious and the Lay Faithful to spiritually prepare themselves for Christmas. Wherever possible, inter-religious Christmas gatherings may be organized at the parish level during the Christmas week.
