Bellary Diocese Mourns Tragic Death of YSR

BELLARY, SEP. 03: The Diocese of Bellary mourns the untimely and tragic death of YSR Reddy, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and his colleagues.

 

“YSR Reddy was a leader of the masses, especially of the poor and marginalized sections of the society”, declared Bishop Henry D’Souza.

 

“YSR practiced politics of a different type. He promoted human rights and freedom of conscience. He cared for the poor and was a champion of the Dailts”, affirmed Bishop D’Souza.

 

“Our hearts reach out to the bereaved families of the victims of the tragic accident, who have suffered the loss of a loved one”, said Bishop D’Souza.

 

YSR was an illustrious student of the Diocese’s 130-year old school, St. John’s School, Bellary. The school held a school assembly to mourn the tragic death and to pray for the repose of his soul.

 

The school Manager Fr. T. Lourdusamy and the Secretary of BDBE have expressed “deep sorrow and shock over the untimely death of a great leader”.

 

PK Halli Catholics Celebrate Their Patron’s Feast with Fervour

BELLARY, SEP. 03: The Catholic faithful of Papanayakana Halli celebrated the feast of their Patron, St. Paul the Hermit with fervor and festivity on Sep. 02.

 

Over 250 Catholics belonging to the Papanayakana Halli sub-station of Humpi parish solemnized their annual feast with a solemn concelebrated Eucharist, a colorful procession and a community meal.

 

Bishop Henry D’Souza presided over the concelebrated Eucharist. He urged the faithful to emulate the “rock-like faith of the saint and urged the faithful to strengthen the Catholic families, to fight against the evil of alcoholism and to fight against HIV/AIDS, so prevalent in the area.”

 

Youthful Fr. Maria Augustine, the local parish priest provided leadership for the meaningful celebrations and Mr. Ignaci and team lead the choir.

 

Catholic Managements to Celebrate Teachers’ Day Together

BELLARY, SEP. 03: All the Catholic School Managements of Bellary will hold a common function to celebrate the Teachers’ Day at the Kroot Memorial Auditorium, Bellary.

 

The function being held “to appreciate and express gratitude to our teachers for their dedicated service,” said Fr. Arokianathan, Secretary, Bellary Diocese Board of Education.

 

The Catholic managements participating in the common programme are: Bellary Diocese Board of Education and the Societies of Education of the Good Shepherd Sisters, Fatima Sisters, Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod, Holy Cross Sisters, and Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

 

The theme of the prgramme is: Education for fostering a civil society.  Over 300 teachers from the different managements are expected to participate in the programme.

 

The programme has been postponed as mark of respect to YSR Reddy who was a former student of the Diocesan school, St. John’s School, Fort, Bellary.

 

Novena for Nativity Feast Begins at Bellary Mathe Shrine

BELLARY, AUG. 30: The nine-day novena in preparation for the annual feast of the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary began with solemnity and fervor at the popular Bellary Arogya Mathe Shrine, Bellary.

 

Bishop Henry D’Souza blessed and hoisted the traditional shrine flag and hoisted it to the music by local folk artistes on Sunday, Aug. 30.

 

The flag hoisting was preceded by the recitation of rosary around the tastefully built grottoes of the mysteries of Holy Rosary around the shrine.

 

Later, Bishop Henry D’Souza presided over the inaugural Eucharist at 6.00 PM. Many priests and a large gathering of devotees participated in the solemn celebration.

 

At the end of the inaugural Mass and the novena prayer, all the devotees were given a meal sponsored by the local philanthropist Francis Babu.

 

The Vicar General and Rector of the Shrine, Fr. Chowrappa Y. led the novena prayer and later thanked one and all.

 

The choir of St Anthony Cathedral led the singing during the liturgical celebrations.
