The New Nuncio Arrived In New Delhi

NEW DELHI, FEB 16: The New Apostolic Nuncio to India Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro arrived in India Feb. 16 morning.

He was received at the Delhi airport by the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India Cardinal Baselios Cleemis.

Other to receive him were Syro-Malabar Major Archbishop Cardinal George Alencherry, Archbishop Anil Couto of Delhi, CBCI Secretary General Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas, Bishop Kuriakose Bharanikulangara of Faridabad, Bishop Jacob Mar Barnabas of Gurgaon and the officials from the Nunciature, Msgr. Henryk M. Jagodzinski and Msgr Tuomo T. Vimpari.

This is the new Apostolic Nuncio’s first posting in an Asian country.

Pope Francis appointed a new Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal on Jan. 21. Italian Archbishop ‎Giambattista Diquattro was serving as the Apostolic Nuncio to Bolivia.

The 62-year-old prelate takes over from Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio, whom ‎Pope Francis transferred to Poland as Apostolic Nuncio in August 2016.

Born in Bologna 1954, Archbishop Diquattro was ordained a priest for Ragusa Diocese in 1981. He was ‎appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Panama in April, 2005 and was ordained a bishop two months later. He ‎was transferred to Bolivia as Apostolic Nuncio in November, 2008, where he has served until now.‎

DEVADURGA, JAN 24,2017: Large gathering of Christians and others rejoiced over the blessing and inauguration of the newly built Church on Jan. 24, on the feast day of St. Francis De Sales, the Patron of Salesians at Deodurga in Raichur district.

Bishop Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary blessed the newly built Church and Fr. Joyce Thonikuzhiyil sdb,  Provincial of the Salesians of the Province of Bangalore,  inaugurated the magnificent place of worship.

A large number of  priests, religious and lay faithful participated in the event.

The new church is dedicated to Mary Help of Christians (Sahayamathe), the heavenly patroness of the Salesians.

Bishop D’Souza appreciated and thanked Fr. K C Mathew SDB, the Rector of the Salesian community of Devadurga and Fr. James Antony Paul sdb, Parish Priest, Fr. Kuriokose sdb, Asst. P.P.  of the Sahayamathe Church for their hard work in constructing the artistically built church.

The Devadurga Taluk of Raichur district has been entrusted to the Salesians in the year 1996.

Bishop appreciated the pastoral and educational and health care apostolate done by the Salesians and the Assisi Sisters for the people of Devadurga, which is a backward area.

Salesians are running a High School and boarding for boys and girls and Child Helpline in Devadurga.

The Assisi Sisters are involved in health ministry and care of girls boarding.

Devadurga has a 350 Catholics spread over many sub-stations.

Fr. James Paul sdb, thanked the donors for their generous contribution towards the construction of the Church at Deodurga.

The programme ended with a fellowship meal for all.

 

Fr. KA William Appointed Bishop of Mysore

altNEW DELHI, JAN 25: Pope Francis has appointed Fr. K.A. William,  of the clergy of Mysore as new Bishop of Mysore Diocese.

Ecclesial provision was made public in Rome on Wednesday, January 25, 2017.

Pope Francis has accepted  resignation of Bishop Thomas Vazhapilli, Bishop of Mysore from Pastoral responsibility.

The bishop-elect was born in Pollibetta, in the Diocese of Mysore, on Feb. 27, 1965.

He studied at the St. Mary’s Minor Seminary and at St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary. He was ordained a priest on May 18, 1993.

He acquired a Master’s Degree in Canon Law and M.A. in Christianity.

Presently he is the Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Church and Secretary, Mysore Diocesan Educational Society. May God abundantly bless his Episcopal ministry!

We appreciate and thank Bishop Thomas Vazhapilly for his dedicated Episcopal ministry for fourteen years.

We wish him robust health and happiness in the years ahead.

 

Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro New Nuncio In India

altNEW DELHI, JAN. 22: Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro is appointed by Pope Francis as Apostolic Nuncio in India and Nepal on 21 January 2017.

 

The ecclesiastical provision was made public in Rome on Saturday, 21 January, 2017 at noon local time, corresponding to 16.30 hours, Indian Time.

 

Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro was born in Bologna (Italy) on March 18, 1954.

 

He was ordained priest on 24 August, 1981.

 

He holds a Doctorate in Canon Law (JCD) from the Lateran University and Post Graduation in Dogmatic Theology from the Gregorian University, Rome and entered Diplomatic Service of the Holy See on May1, 1985.

 

He served in the Apostolic Nunciatures in Central African Republic, The Democratic Republic of Congo and Chad, the United Nations and later in the Secretariat of State of the Vatican and in the Apostolic Nunciature in Italy.

 

On April 2, 2005, Pope Saint John Paul II appointed him Titular Archbishop of  Giromonte and Apostolic Nuncio to Panama.

 

On 4 June 2005 he was consecrated Archbishop in Ragusa, Sicily, Italy. And he began his mission in Panama on July 12, 2005.

 

On November 21, 2008 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Bolivia.

 

He is fluent in French, Spanish and English.
