Inter-Religious Meet Held on Christmas Day; “Reach out” Urges Bishop

BELLARY, 26 DEC 2009:  An inter-religious meet was organized on Christmas day at the Bellary Mathe Shrine, Bellary.

“As God reached out to humanity ar Christmas, all Christians need to hold the saving hand of God and reach out to others”, declared Bishop Henry D’Souza.

“Eternal life, friendship with God, everlasting light - Christmas puts them all within our reach, and yet not all people open up their hands to receive them, because they haven’t yet experienced true Christmas”, Bishop stated.

“Christmas is the feast of God sharing His love with us. Jesus as our Savior brought the ‘good news’ that our God is a loving, forgiving, merciful and rewarding God who wants to save us through His Son Jesus and not a judging, cruel and punishing God”, affirmed Bishop D’Souza.

“Jesus demonstrated by his life and teaching how God our heavenly Father loves us, forgives us, and provides for us. Christmas reminds us that sharing love with others is our Christian duty and that every time we do so, Jesus is reborn in our lives”, Bishop added.

“What if Jesus is born in thousands of cribs all over the world and He is not born in our hearts?” asked Bishop.

Bishop D’Souza urged over 2,500 strong crowd “to radiate his light around us as sharing and selfless love, in compassionate words and deeds, unconditional forgiveness, the spirit of humble service and overflowing generosity”.

Speaking on the occasion, Swamy Kalyana of the Kalyana Mutt lauded the noble life and teachings of Jesus Christ and urged that all human beings need to show love and compassion to one another.

Noted Muslim Unani practitioner Dr Fauzia Bagum highlighted the unique prophetic teachings of Jesus Christ. She emphasized on the need of caring for the needy and neglected in the society.

Rector of the Shrine Fr. Chowrappa welcomed the gathering and many of the Catholic schools from Bellary presented colourful tableaus on Christmas.
