New TB Dam Church Is Ready for Dedication on May 1

altBELLARY, APR 24: The aesthetically designed and well built new church at T.B. Dam is all set to be dedicated on May 1, with due solemnity.

The new church building erected under the leadership of Fr. Leo Michael will be dedicated by Bishop of Bellary Henry D’Souza during a solemn Eucharistic celebration at 10.30 am on Workers’ Day.

Fr. Bhagawanthraj is the present incumbent parish priest of T. B. Dam parish.

Catholics from Tamil Nadu came to Hospet and Munirabad area to as construction workers at the time of building the huge TB Dam over Tunga Bhadra River some 50 years ago.

Chapels were built in TB Dam area and Munirabad to provide pastoral acre for these Catholics, and they were served by the parish priest of neighboring Hospet.

Later TB Dam and Munirabad were given independent status.

Fr Denis Menezes was the first resident Parish priest of TB Dam.

Fr Menezes built the present priest’s residence in 1974.

During 1982-85 the parish was served by the Salesian priests.

The existing small church was renovated at the time of Fr. Rajappan, then parish priest of TB Dam.

The parish has about 1,800 Catholics.
