Karnataka Youth Pledge To Foster Better Leadership

BELLARY, AUGUST 08: 560 Catholic youth leaders belonging to the various Catholic youth movements made a solemn pledge “to be change agents in the society” and “to usher in a new society” by fostering better leadership based on Biblical world view here today at the popular Bellary Arogya Mathe Shrine.

The Catholic youth leaders from the 12 Catholic dioceses of Karnataka took the pledge at the end of a three day Regional Youth Convention organized by the Youth Commission of the Karnataka Catholic Bishops’ Council held at St. Anthony Community Centre.

The youth promised “to draw ever closer to Jesus Christ and inspired by the Gospel values to work for the church and the society”, said the Regional ICYM President Pramod from Belthangady.

Secretary of the Regional Youth Commission Fr. Franklin D’Souza administered the pledge in the presence of the chairman Bishop Henry D’Souza.

The youth leaders belonged to movements such as Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Jesus Youth, All India Catholic University Students’ Federation (AICUF), Bosco Youth and Young Students’ Movement (YSM)”.

The convention was inaugurated by the Archbishop of Bangalore Bernard Moras on Aug. 6. Bishop of Bellary and the regional Youth Commission chairman Bishop Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Karwar Derek Fernandes, Bishop of Begaum Peter Machado and Bishop of Gulbarga Robert Miranda were present.

In his inaugural address Archbishop Moras urged youth to “protect and promote human life in all forms” and to uphold human dignity.

During the three day convention, the youth deliberated on the theme, “Live the word and liberate the world”.

Well chosen resource persons like Karnataka High Court Justice BV Pinto, Director of Mumbai Aldel Education Trust Albert D’Souza, CK Ashok of Sawhardha Vedike, Evangelization Secretary Fr Ronald Cardoza, Regional PRO Fr. Faustine Lobo and others motivated the young leaders.

The panel discussion on young achievers included media person Caroline Allwyn, softwear engineer Ancy Paladka, management consultant Jose and TV artiste Lokesh.

Fr. Marie Joseph, Diocesan Youth Director together with the local priests, religious and youth leaders ably organized the convention locally.

About 260 youth from the Bellary diocese participated in the event enthusiastically.
