Karnataka and Western Regional Bishops Begin Ad Limina Visit; Concelebrate at St Peter’s Tomb

altThe VATICAN, SEP 01: The Bishops of Karnataka and the Western Region concelebrated Eucharist at the much venerated tomb of St Peter at the world renowned St. Peter’s Basilica on Sep. 01.

The Bishops began their Ad Limina visit with a concelebrated Eucharist in the basement of the world’s largest church.

In his words of introduction, Cardinal Oswald Gracias suggested to pray for all the Catholics of India, the country and the departed bishops.

Archbishop Filipe Neri, patriarch of Goa, who presided over the Eucharist, urged all the bishops to emulate the example of St. Peter through their fidelity to the Master and by strengthening the faith of fellow Christians.

The Ad Limina visit of the Bishops will include meeting the Holy Father, visiting the various Vatican dicasteries, visit to the major basilicas.

The Archbishops in the batch are: Cardinal Oswald Gracias (Mumbai), Archbishop Filipe Neri (Goa), Archbishop Abraham Viruthakulangara (Nagpur), Archbishop Bernard Moras (Bangalore), Archbishop Stanny Fernandes (Gandhinagar) and Archbishop Emeritus Raul Gonsalves (Goa).

The Karanataka bishops are: Bishop Peter Machado (Belgaum), Bishop Henry D’Souza (Bellary),BishopAnthonysamy (Chikmagalur), Bishop Robert Miranda (Gulbarga), bishop Derek Fernandes (Karwar), Bishop  AP D’Souza (Mangalore), Bishop  Thomas Vazapilly (Mysore) and Bishop Gerald Lobo (Shimoga).

Later the Archbishops had an audience with the Pope in the Castel Gondalfo summer residence.

The Bishops of the Western region will meet the Pope on Friday and the Karnataka Bishops on Saturday morning.

The Ad Limina visit will end on Sep. 10.
