altBELLARY, NOV 27: Year of New Evangelization was launched by Bishop Henry D’Soza today at Bellary.

To mark the opening of the year on the first Sunday of Advent Bishop D’Souza released the Prayer for New Evangelization prepared by the diocesan commission for evangelization.

“The year of new evangelization is a God-given opportunity of spcial grace to deepen once own faith, to bear witness to it and to work for the transformation of the society through love and service”, declared Bishop.

“Evangelization is the primary vocation of the Church and it is her primary mission. It is a calling to carry forth the Good News ‘to every sector of the human race so that by its strength it may enter into the hearts of men and women and renew the human race’” (EN, 1975, no.18) reminded Bishop D’Souza.

“God wills that all men be saved by accepting the ‘life in abundance’ offered in Christ Jesus”, reminded Bishop.

“The Spirit of God is blowing fervently in the world, and is moving the Church everywhere with a renewed awareness and eagerness that all baptized have a singular call to witness to Christ. It is this personal love for Jesus and His kingdom which makes one an evangelizer”, affirmed Bishop D’Souza.

Reaffirming Church’s official teaching Bishop Henry D’Souza stated: “New evangelization ‘is not re-evangelization, but it is a commitment with new ardor, methods and expression….’ It is not re-doing the evangelization or simply repeating the past. ‘It is the courage to forge new ways in responding to the changing circumstances and conditions facing the Church in her call to proclaim and live the Gospel today.’” (XIII Synod of Bishops – Lineamenta, p. 22).

From the first Sunday of Advent 2011 until Christmas 2012 will be the year of New Evangelization in Bellary Diocese.

It will be a privileged time to pray for evangelization, promote it through life witness and proclamation, with added zeal and vigour.
