altBELLARY, APRIL 1: A large number of Christians joined the Palm Sunday ecumenical procession held on Sunday, April 1, organized by the United Christian Forum, Bellary.

The annual procession, which is being held on the occasion of the Holy Week, began with an ecumenical praise and worship at the St. Antony’s Cathedral.

Thereafter, Christian faithful marched with palms in their hands recalling the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem before his passion and death.

The procession ended with the ecumenical worship at the popular Bellary Arogya Matha Shrine where Reverend Sarvodhaya B R , the vice president of the northern Karnataka Diocese urged the gathering to be united as Jesus prayed “that all of them may be one Father, just as you are in me and I am in you” (Jn 17:21).

Pastors Samuel Prasad, Christopher V D and Murugesh led the gathering into prayer.

President of the United Christian Forum and Bishop of Bellary Henry D’ Souza, in his message urged all Christians to renew the journey of faith both as individuals and community with the help of the Word of God and  concern for each other.

He also reminded the need of bearing witness to the Risen Christ through lives inspired by the Good News and common service to the poor and needy.

Bishop insisted on the need of fostering inter religious dialogue by all Christians at all levels.

Choir of St. Antony’s Cathedral, CSI and independent churches added fervor to the ecumenical worship.

B.I. Kiran of Aradana Broadcasting International, invited the gathering to join the “run for Jesus”, 5 kms. marathon on April 7, from the Bellary Arogya Mathe Shrine  to Wardlaw College in Bellary to show the visible unity of Christians.

Later, the programme ended with a multi-media presentation on the Way of the Cross by Father Thomas Santhosh, the secretary for commission for Social communication.

Father Chowrappa, the vicar general and rector of the Shrine facilitated the program and thanked the gathering.
