Bellary Diocesan Commissions Meet To Prepare Pastoral Plans

BELLARY, JUNE 26: Meeting of all the diocesan commissions, with their chairmen, secretaries and members was held on 26 June, 2012 at the Bishop’s house, Bellary. Bishop of Bellary Henry D’ Souza presided over the sessions.

In his introductory address, Bishop D’Souza stated “The church is a living community of faith. It’s pastoral, social and charitable activities are not to be merely philanthropic activities but expressions of faith and God’ love lavished on humanity in Christ Jesus.”

“The pastoral programmes of the Church should flow from the very identity of the Church which is understood as a Community of the People of God”, Bishop explained.

“The necessity for collaborative structures in the local church is based on the theology of the People of God. By virtue of baptism and confirmation all Christ's faithful in the diocese form the Body of Christ and all have a role to play in the life of the diocese,” Bishop added.

The pastoral programme of all the diocesan commissions of the diocese should reflect the combined effort by the clergy, the religious and the lay faithful of the diocese to build the community of the faithful to be more loving, to be more serving, to be more witnessing and to be more mission oriented,” Bishop stated.

Fr. Lourdusamy, Coordinator of the Karnataka Region Pastoral Plan presented the methodology of preparing a pastoral plan and introduced the Karnataka Regional Pastoral Plan of KRCBC.

Later, the diocesan commissions prepared their own plans with vision–mission statements based on the regional plan. During the common session, all the plans were shared and discussed. The commission secretaries were requested to fine-tune the plans within a fortnight and bring them for a joint session to be held later in July.

Fr. M. S. Irudhayaraj, coordinator of the diocesan commissions thanked the commissions for their cooperation and commitment.
