St. Joseph Girls’ School Bellary Celebrates Golden Jubilee

BELLARY, JUNE 29, 2012 (Siddalingayya): The Golden Jubilee celebration was blessed with the presence of Mother Passion FS  founder of the school who dared to start the school with just 24 students in 1961 in the most backward area of the town of Bellary then.

Bishop of Bellary Henry D’ Souza, mother general of Fatima Sisters Sr. Santhan Nago,  provincial superior Sr. Theresa  Peter,  manager of the school  Sr. Cecilia, B.E.O.  Shri Ashok Sindhigi, headmistress Sr. Gracie and BUDA chairman Vinod Kumar were guests of honr at the function.

As a tribute to the glorious past, students of   the school presented a dance drama on the theme “gnana kalpa” which was directed by Kulkarni Hospet, choreographed by Impzel, music by Antony Paul. Over 750 students participated in the dance huge presentation.

Quoting from the CBCI Education Policy, Bishop D’Souza insisted that “Education, by its very nature is a transformative process, namely, changing human persons, and through them, society and its structures. This activity of transformation is a spiritual, humanizing and liberating activity.” 

Refering to the inspiring words of Plutarch, the Greek Philosopher, bishop said “The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled”. “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”, Bishop cautioned.

The bishop lauded the commendable service rendered by the Fatima sisters to the education field in Bellary.

Monsignor Francis Xavier Kroot, a Mill Hill Missionary who was a Military Chaplin (1893) of the then Bellary Garrison founded the Fatima Sisters for the education of women of the backward area.

His dream was visualized through Mother Passion in 1961 and the the same has grown into a huge tree today.

Sr. Teresa Peter, provincial, pledged and assured the dedicated service of the Fatima Sisters to the people of Bellary.

Former teachers who rendered yeomen service to the institution were honoured at the occasion.  They were: Mother Passion, Sr. Wilfred, Sr. Dunstan, Sr. Cecilia, Sr. Balbina, Sr. Lilly Thomas, Sr. Thangamma, Smt. Indira Bai, Smt. Omkaramma to name a few.
