BELLARY, July 15 (Sagayam): Ecumenical Prayer service was held at Bellary’s ancient Christ the King church on Sunday, July 15 seeking God’s intervention by sending rains to the water scarcity hit Karnataka.

Christians from many of the denominations joined the Bishop of Bellary Henry D’Souza to pray for the much needed rains for the people in distress.

The prayer service was organized under the aegis of United Christian Forum, Bellary.

Failure in of monsoon rains and prevailing draught in Karnataka and Southern states made the leaders to come together to pray for rain.

In his message Bishop Henry D’ Souza, President, United Christian Forum, Northern Karnataka, urged the people to trust in God, “who provides for all our needs” and appealed to preserve water particularly the rain water.

Bishop D’Souza reminded the well-attended congregation that water is closely associated with the Christian faith: at creation water was covering the earth, it was from the waters of Nile, Moses was rescued, the Israelites were saved miraculously through as passage through water, from the pierced side of Jesus flowed blood and water and Baptismal waters give new life to Christians!”

Bishop urged people not to allow rain water to go wasted and he insisted on the need of “rain water harvesting”.

Father Chowrappa, Vicar General of Bellary, Reverend Sarvodhaya BR, vice president of the Northern Karnataka Region, Samuel Prasad, Christopher V D, Murugesh, Sr. Marie Chistine AC, Secretary, Women’s Commission¬† led the prayers.¬†
