Bellary: BDDS Celebrates Children’s Day

BELLARY, NOV 18 (Sagaya Mary):  Over 527 children participated in children’s day celebrations organized by Bellary Diocese Development Society (BDDS) at Bellary Arogya Mathe Shrine premises Nov. 18.

Speaking at the occasion Bishop of Bellary Henry D’ Souza encouraged children to appreciate their own dignity and that of others, thus build up better community.

“Children should be provided with secure and friendly environment for their all-round growth,” Bishop insisted.

“Children should be encouraged to live in a multi-cultural and multi-religious context, with due respect for the rich diversity of India”, Bishop added.

He also appreciated the services offered by BDDS for the integral development of children through its IDEA programme.

Children from Bellary, Amarapura, Belgal and Halkundi  panchayats as well  Child Helpline beneficiaries attended the day-long programme.

Cutting the cake and busting balloons at the occasion signified the birthday celebration of all the children present.

A theme song “Makkalu Manege Deepa” (Children are the light of home) was presented by the staff of BDDS. A talent’s show by children followed with a lunch thereafter.

Highlighting the activities of the BDDS specifically Child Helpline program Fr. Paul Raj, director of BDDS, informed plan for extension of six more helpline centers in Bellary district.


The Child Helpline is set up under the aegis of Women & Child Development and Child Line India Foundation.


A toll free number 1098 or 08392 – 241034 can be contacted to inform children in trouble. 

Father Chowrappa, Vicar general, Mr. Chanakeshav and some religious nuns were present.
