BELLARY, 18 FEB 2013: Catholic Association of Bellary was formally launched at Deeksha Bhavan Hall on Sunday, Feb. 17 in Bellary.

Inaugurating the Association Bishop of Bellary Henry D’Souza said, “The laity are full members of the Church, who fully share in Church's purpose of sanctification, of ‘inner union of men with God,’ (CCC 775) acting with freedom and personal responsibility and not as mere agents of the hierarchy”.

“Due to their baptism, they are members of God's family, the Church, and they grow in intimate union with God, ‘in’ and ‘by means’ of the world” Bishop added.

“The Catholic laity are by baptism made one body with Christ and are constituted among the People of God; and kingly functions of Christ; and they carry out for their own part the mission of the whole Christian people in the church and in the world (LG 31)”, Bishop declared.

As the Second Vatican Council insisted, “It belongs to the laity to seek the kingdom of God by engaging in the affairs of the world and directing them according to God's will" (LG, CL 20), reminded Bishop.

Bishop D’Souza urged the Catholic leaders to make the Association “a face of the Church looking outwards, promoting greater participation in public life and public service through seminars, conferences, and training”.

The animation sessions were conducted by the Vice President of All India Catholic Union (AICU) Lancy D’Cunha, Karnataka President of AICU Monte Fernandes and Professor Francis D’Souza.

At the end of the sessions the following were elected office bearers of the Association:

        Mr. Felix Braganza – President

Ms. Celine Pushparaj – Vice President I

Mr. Raja Reddy – Vice President II

Mr. Francis A. – General Secretary

        Mr. Suby Mathew – Treasurer

“The Association shall be organized at three levels, namely- parish, deanery and diocese, with all active members of the parish associations as members of the general body of the Catholic Association of Bellary”, said the new President Felix Braganza.
