BELLARY, MARCH 24: A 1,500 strong ecumenical procession was held with great fervor on the occasion of Holy Week at Bellary, March 24.

The annual procession was held under the aegis of the United Christian Form, comprising of all the mainline churches and the evangelical communities.

The procession started with ecumenical worship led by Pastor Rev. Isaac Mathew at the Telugu Church of the Church of South India.

Thereafter, halfway through the procession, Pastor Sampath Kumar led the ecumenical worship at the Radio Park.

The procession culminated at the St. Anthony’s Cathedral. There the worship was presided over by Bishop Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary and the President of the United Christian Forum.

Fr. Herald Pinto gave the significance of the Holy Week worship and pastors from many of the denominations joined the prayer.

The worship was facilitated by Fr. Chinnappa and led by the Cathedral parish priest Fr. Charles D’Souza.

In his message Bishop Henry D’Souza appreciated the cordial and friendly relationship prevalent among the various denominations and insisted on the need of common witnessing to the life and mission of Jesus who prayed “Father, may they be all one”.

Bishop D’Souza urged all community leaders and pastors to avoid “speaking ill of other churches” and “denigrating any religion of their practices”.

Fr. Ivan Pinto, Secretary of the Diocesan Ecumenism Commission proposed the vote of thanks.
