Rector Of St. Peter’s Seminary Brutally Killed; Bishop Condemns Dastardly Act

BANGALORE, APRIL 1: Rector of St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Fr. KJ Thomas (55) was found brutally killed today.

The body of Fr K J Thomas found was lying in a pool of blood inside a coffee room adjacent to his office-cum-residence.

Bishop of Bellary Henry D’Souza stated, “The entire Karnataka region is deeply shocked and saddened by the death” and has condemned the “dastardly act and condoled the death of an excellent priest, who was known for his kindness and efficient administration.”

Apparently, the killers had struck Fr. Thomas on the forehead with a blunt weapon. The body of Fr. K.J. Thomas was found with multiple head injuries in a coffee room this morning by the seminary staff.

It’s reported that blood stains in the rector’s room and along the corridor indicated that the priest had probably tried to escape from the assailants. The killers might have murdered him in the corridor and dumped his body in the coffee room.

Incidentally, the murder took place when all students of the seminary — nearly 200 of them — were away on vacation.

Bishop D’Souza has requested the priests, the religious and the lay faithful of the Bellary diocese “to pray for the repose of the departed soul of Fr. Thomas and for the bereaved family”.
