AMARAVATHI 21 APRIL 2013 (Sagaya): Bishop Henry D’Souza blessed the foundation stone for the Abhaya Poor Children’s Home at Amaravati, near Hospet on Sunday, April 21.

The diocesan children’s sponsorship programme named Abhaya India VZW has come forward to financially support the construction of the children’s home.

Deena Seva Sabha Sisters (DSS) who would be running the home, have already started a convent in that area and conducting a survey in the area.

They are paying special attention to children infected with HIV/AIDS and those affected by it. Due to high concentration of transport and migrant workers, the prevalence of the infection is rather high in the area.

Speaking at the occasion the Bishop thanked Abhaya India VZW for its generosity and goodwill. A word of special gratitude was expressed for Fr. Arokianathan for his initiative.

Bishop also thanked the Deena Seva Sabha Sisters who have come forward to take care of the project.

Present at the occasion were: Abhaya director Fr. Arogyanathan, diocesan finance officer Fr. Antony Raj, diocesan estate manager Fr. Yagappa, local dean and parish priest Fr. Bagawanth Raj, Fr. Danappa and local DSS superior Sr. Mercita and others.

This project is the first of its kind in the diocese. When completed the home would take care for about 60 children.
