altBELLARY MAY 28: Bishop of Bellary Henry D’Souza ordained two new priests and a deacon for the Diocese of Bellary on 28th May at St. Antony’s Cathedral in Bellary.

The new priests are Fr. Lourd Rajan and Fr. Stanislaus Job and the new deacon is Br. Chourappa.

Large number of priests, religious and lay faithful participated in the solemn and deeply spiritual celebration.

Quoting Blessed John Paul II, “Do not be afraid to declare your identity as priests” in all circumstances the Bishop urged the priests.

While stressing the ministerial responsibility of a deacon the bishop pointed out that deacons are called to be ministers of the Good News and to assist priests in their pastoral ministry.

“God wants you to be not merely cultic priests, but a good priest, shaped unto the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ himself”, insisted Bishop.

“It is therefore for you to recognize the precious gift given by God to preach the Good News, to nourish the community of the faithful and to provide pastoral leadership”, stated Bishop.

“Such a life of commitment can be possible only through sincere prayer, diligent study of the word of God and working selflessly for the transformation of the society”, exhorted Bishop D’Souza.

“Priests of today cannot afford to be leaders of ghetto and divisive groups, but always fostering unity among all and respect for all”, said Bishop Henry.

Bishop Henry D’Souza urged all Catholic faithful “to respect and love priests, to cooperate with them and to pray for them, and above all to work in unison with them to build a vibrant community”.
