Good Governance Ensures Social And Economic Freedom

altBELLARY, AUG 30 (Sagaya): Over 500 leaders converged from all over Bellary, Raichur and Koppal districts to participate in the symposium on “Governance and Civil Society” on Aug. 30 at Bellary.

The symposium was inaugurated by K.J. George, Home Minister, Government of Karnataka.

In his inaugural address Minister George said, “Ensuring social freedom and economic freedom results in good Governance. The civil society has a bounden duty to elect honest and non-corrupt persons to ensure good governance.”

Karnataka Labour Minister and Bellary District in charge minister Shri. PT Prameshwar Naik urged the citizens be aware of their rights and make the best use of Right to Information Act.

Eminent speakers such as Professor P. Satyanarayana Rao, social activist and chartered accountant S. Panna Raj, and medical surgeon Dr. Khalid Muqueem spoke on the topic.

The symposium was moderated by Bishop Henry D’Souza.

In his message Bishop reminded that Moses gave Ten Commandments which would stand in good stead for good governance and right social behavior.

Bishop D’Souza also reminded of the seven deadly social sins enlisted by Gandhiji: wealth without work, pleasure without conscience, knowledge without character, commerce without morality, science without humanity, religion without sacrifice and politics without principle. They could be handy in ensuring good governance.

Smt. Dr. Jalajaxi, associate lecturer in Sociology, summed up the discussion.

Earlier, minister George and minister Parameshwar Naik unveiled  the foundation stone for the proposed Navodaya Catholic Community Center  and declared open the renovated premises of St. Anthony’s Community Center.

The program was jointly organized by the United Christian Forum, Catholic Association, Kerala Cultural Association and the Rotary Club of Cantonment, Bellary.
