altBELLARY, AUGUST 30: A large gathering of Catholics and devotees from other religious affiliations thronged the Bellary Arogya Mathe Shrine for the annual flag hoisting ceremony on Aug. 30.

Bishop of Bellary Henry D’Souza hoisted the flag to the thunderous applause and singing of hymns.

The Bellary Arogya Mathe shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Good Health was dedicated in 2000 under the leadership of Bishop Joseph D’Silva, then Bishop of Bellary.

The annual novena is held at the shrine Aug. 30 to Sep. 7 in preparation for the annual feast of the nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary.

In his message on the occasion, Bishop D’Souza urged people to imitate Mary by making their lives “Christ-centered”.

Bishop D’Souza encouraged people to be like Mother Mary in “seeking the will of God and surrendering their lives to God”.

“The will of God is for betterment and fulfillment of humans; it does not curtail human freedom or human enjoyment, rather it enhances it and fulfills it”, added Bishop.

Bishop D’Souza emphasized on the need of “strengthening family bonds and giving due recognition and formation to children and youth.”

Presently, Fr. Anthony Raj along with Fr. Sunil Gehloth is providing leadership for all the events at the shrine.
