Bellary Clergy Reflects On “The Joy of the Gospel”

E-mail Print PDF

BELLARY, JAN 9, 2014:  The clergy of the diocese of Bellary held a 3-day recollection on the Apostolic Exhortation “The Joy of the Gospel”, Jan. 7-9, 2014 in three batches  at the Bishop’s House, Bellary.

65 priests participated in three batches – the junior, the middle and the senior clergy. Fr. Vijay Kumar presented the highlights and main thrusts of the Apostolic Exhortation and Fr. Lourduswamy T. sensitized on the pastoral implications. Bishop Henry D’Souza facilitated the sharing session based on some of the important pastoral concerns.

The clergy felt that the mission thrust in the diocese is insufficient, and as demanded by the Exhortation, needs to “recover the freshness of the Gospel” and be in a “permanent state of mission”. Emphasis was laid on making all the diocesan institutions and organisations mission oriented.

The clergy also made introspection on the need of improving their homilies by taking time to hear the Word of God, to pray over it, to be challenged by it and impelled by it to spread the Good News.

The younger clergy came forward to prepare a set of homilies to sensitize the lay faithful on the main thrusts of the Apostolic Exhortation during the coming season of Lent.
