Laxminagar Camp PP Fr. Ajit Pai Passes Away

BELLARY, JAN 15, 2014: Fr. Ajit  Albuquerque  Pai (65), parish priest of Laxminagar Camp church, Bellary, passed away early this morning.

Fr. Ajit died at about 2.00 am while travelling by bus from Bangalore to Bellary. He was taken to the Govt. Hospital in Challakere where he was declared dead.

Shimoga priest Fr. Jesu Rakshakar and UMI Sisters of Challakere convent rushed to the hospital to assist Fr. Ajit.

Frs. Paulraj, Yagappa and Ivan Pinto hurried to Challakere on hearing the news and brought the mortal remains to Bellary.

Fr. Ajit Pai was born on 1st Sep. 1948 to late Louis Albuquerque and Angeline Pinto in  Panakaje , Sacred Heart Church, Madanthyar of South Kanara.

He did his high school studies in Board High School, Pungalakatta and graduation at St. Aloysius College, Mangalore.

He joined St. Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore in 1967 and was ordained priest on 12th May 1979 at Church of Lady of Miracles at Milegres, Mangalore.

His brother lives in Mumbai and among four of his sisters, one a religious nun.

Fr. Ajit served as assistant parish priest at Manvi and Munirabad for two years.

He was a parish priest of Manvi (1980-82), Kowtal (1980-84), Sindhanur (1984-86), Munirabad (1986-94), Harapanahalli (1994-99), and Jagir Pannur (1999-2002), Toranagallu (2002-09).

He has been serving at as parish priest of Lakshminagar Camp, in the outskirts of Bellary.

Fr. Ajit was known for his healthcare ministry and had a special gift for water divining, with which he helped many farmers.

After the requiem mass in the St. Mary’s chapel, the mortal remains of Fr. Ajit Pai are taken to St. Peter’s Church, Lakshminagar Camp.

Bishop will preside over a requiem Mass at 5.00 pm today at Laxminagar Camp and the funeral service will begin at 10.00 am, Jan. 16 at the St. Anthony Cathedral Church, Bellary.

Thereafter, the mortal remains will be buried at Cowl Bazaar cemetery, Bellary .

“Fr. Ajit was a devoted and dedicated pastor who endeared himself to all. In his death the diocese has lost a good pastor”, said Bishop Henry D’Souza. He has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.¬†
