Three Bellary Catechists Celebrate Silver Jubilee

altBELLARY, FEB 27 (Fr. Danappa M): Lay catechists Mariappa K, Joseph and Prabhu celebrated 25 years of  their dedication as catechists on Feb. 27 at Bellary  at Bellary Arogya Mathe Shrine.

The solemn Eucharistic celebration was led by Bishop Henry D’ Souza, and concelebrated by over 40 priests.

A large number of religious, lay faithful, friends and family members of the jubilarians attended. 

Bishop Henry D’ Souza in his homily said “Every baptized person by virtue of his/her baptism is invited to proclaim the Good News” as mandated by the Risen Lord. “The plan of God is to bring Good News to everyone, Jews and gentiles alike” (Eph3: 8-9). Bishop insisted on the need of finding new ways to reach the love of God to all.

“Our catechists are some of the best ones in the Karnataka region”, declared Bishop D’Souza.

During the Eucharist, the jubilarians committed themselves more firmly to the serve in the Lord’s vineyard - particularly to proclaim the Good News.

At the end of the Eucharistic celebration, there was a brief felicitation program organized by the Evangelization Commission. 

Bishop felicitated the jubilarians. Fr. Anthonyraj P, the former Director of Evangelization Commission said “Catechists are strong pillars in the diocese of Bellary” and encouraged the catechists to give their lives to Christ and be living witnesses to the Gospel”.

“We are guided by the Holy Spirit while proclaiming  the Good News”, stated catechist Mariappa K, one of the jubilarians.

 “Bhagavanthana Bhajipevu”, a compilation of prayers and bhajans was released on the occasion. 

Bishop congratulated Frs. Lourdu Marianna and Danappa and their team for their excellent initiative and hard work.

Fr. Danappa Moolimani, the present director of the Evangelization Commission thanked all those gathered.

School children from Holy Cross School, Lakshinagar Camp presented colourful dance programs on the occasion.

The service of the catechists has been a tradition of the diocese of Bellary from the very beginning of the Bellary Mission started as early as 1797.

It was formally initiated with a systematic formation at Christhashram, Sindhanur by then Bishop Ambrose Yeddanapalli OFM in the year 1987 Fr. Anthonyraj as its director. It was nurtured by late Bishop Joseph D’Silva and now by the present Bishop Henry D’ Souza.
