Women’s Day Celebration Oragnised by Assisi Center at Hoovina Hadagali

altHADAGALLI, MARCH 8 (Sr. Ida Francis, ASMI):  The Women’s Self Help Groups of  Hadagali, under the leadership of  Assisi Sisters of Hadagali, celebrated women’s Day on  8th March at Rangamandir, Hoovina Hadagalli taluk head quarters.

Sri. M. Jayadevappa,  social welfare officer, Fr. Paulraj, director of Bellary Diocesan Development Society,  Mr. Kottresh,  Field officer, BDCC Bank, Fr. Rajesh D’Souza,  Director, Carmel Jothi Sevalaya, Mrs . Ambuja Sudhakar, advocate and social activist, Miss Kalamma, teacher Honnaikanahalli, Dr. Sr. Shilba Mary, Assisi Hospital, Mrs. Prema, Supervisor, Govt. Hospital, and Sr. Ida Francis, Manager, Assisi Rehabilitation Centre were the chief guests for the Programme.

In his message, Mr.  Jayadevappa, the social welfare officer, made the participants aware of the government schemes which women could avail through social welfare office. He also extended his whole hearted cooperation in this regard.

The Assisi Sisters of Hoovina Hadagali, are rendering yeomen service to uplift women in Hadagali Taluk. There are 50 Women Self Help Groups and 45 Self Help Groups  for the physically challenged functioning  under their leadership. 

Women leaders are motivated to empower others,  by knowing their dignity and rights, more specially by availing government  benefits like subsidy loans and general loans with less interest etc.

Assisi Sisters came to Hadagali in 1994, at the invitation of the Government to work in collaboration in the National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) in the Hoovina Hadagali Taluk of Bellary District.

Fr. Paulraj and Fr. Rajesh, spoke at the occasion, about the powerful role women play in the family and society at large and expressed the need of educating women in the right direction.

About 650 women participated in the celebration. One of the SHG group women presented an awareness skit about gender sensitization, particularly female feticide   and Carmel Jyothi School children presented a meaningful music and dance program at the occasion.

Prizes were distributed to women who participated in various competitions conducted at the occasion.

Sr. Ida Francis the director, Assisi Center thanked all those present.
