altMASKI, AUGUST 02, 2014: The newly built St. John’s Primary School building was blessed and inaugurated at Maski in Raichur district today.

Bishop Henry D’Souza blessed the new structure and the local Member of legislative Assembly Sri Pratap Gowda Patil declared it open.

Built with financial assistance from Manos Unidas, the school started 12 years ago, educates over 370 students, mostly from backward sections of the society.

In his message, Bishop D’Souza declared that education should enhance self esteem and impart dignity to students as human persons. “It should empower the students to be agents of transformation in the society”, he added.

Bishop lauded the hard work put in by the local parish priest Fr. O. Vincent and his collaborators. He recalled the services of Fr. Paul Moras who started the school and Fr. Leo Michael who prepared the ground for procuring the necessary funds.

MLA Mr. Pratap Gowda Patil appreciated the “selfless and dedicated work done by the Christian missionaries to impart education to the rural children.”

He assured to do his best to help the school in “whatever way he can”.

Fr. Herald Pinto led the prayer service, Fr. O. Vincent proposed the vote of thanks and Sunil Gehlot compeered the programme.

The well attended programme ended with a fellowship meal for all.
