Sacerdotal Golden Jubilee Of Fr. Thomas D’Souza Celebrated Meaningfully

altBALLARI, DEC. 04: The golden jubilee celebration of priestly ordination of Fr. Thomas J. D’Souza was meaningfully held at today at St. Anthony’s Community Center, Ballari. 

The climax of the celebration was the thanksgiving Holy Eucharist. In his homily Bishop Henry D’Souza thanked the jubilarian for his prolonged priestly ministry and congratulated him for his ministry.

“Ministerial priesthood is for the service of the Church and the people of God” reminded Bishop. “One can attain sanctification through any state of life; however, the pastoral clergy do through their ministry of teaching, sanctification and servant leadership”, he added.

“A jubilee is a time to be grateful to God for the gift of priesthood and a time to rededicate oneself”, affirmed Bishop.

“Fr. Thomas D’Souza was always people’s priest. Contented and ever smiling in the service of the Lord, building community of faithful”, declared Bishop D’Souza.

Many priests, the Religious, and some relatives of Fr. Thomas D’Souza joined in the thanksgiving Holy Eucharist. The celebrations ended with a felicitation function and an agape.

The golden jubilarian worked in the Diocese in different positions  such as Asst. Parish Priest, in Jawalgera (1964-66), Cathedral (1966-68,), Mudgal (1968-69), parish priest at  Maski (1969-75), Cathedral (1975-80), Munirabad (1980-81), Gangavathi (1981-87), 1987-94), Chithapur Jawalgera (1994-99), City Parish (1999-2004) and Siruguppa (2004-09).

He was fortunate to be ordained along with 140 other priests from various parts of the country during the Eucharistic Congress held at Bombay in 1964 and led by his Holiness Saint Pope Paul VI. It was the first time the Pope ever visited India.

Fr. Thomas Jerome D’Souza was born in 21st December 1937 to Santan D’Souza and Catherine Saldanha in Kirem, Mangalore.

His other companions in the seminary from the diocese of Bellary were Frs. Archibald Correa, Denis Menezes, Henry Fernandes and Charles D’Souza.

At present Fr. Thomas D’Souza is residing at Bethany Senior Priests Home, Ballari.
