BALLARI, MAY 05: Deacon Anselm Sunil Dandavati from Sacred Heart Parish, Mudgal, Raichur was ordained priest on 5th May at St. Anthony’s Cathedral, Ballari by Bishop Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Ballari.

Also, Brother Balaraju B, Asumption Church, Dasapura, Hassan, and Brother Rayappa Kadanlli, Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hire Naganoor, Raichur were ordained deacons.

In his homily Bishop reminded priests of the power given by Jesus to “bind and to lose” all sinful inclinations and to “open the treasures of grace” to all through their ministry of preaching, sanctification and pastoral governance.

“Vocation to priesthood is a calling to bear abundant fruit by effectively preaching the good news and ministering through servant leadership” stated Bishop.

“Through spiritual well-being, priests have a duty to stay attuned to their own spiritual health. They must maintain and nurture an ongoing prayer life and address their own spiritual needs in order to remain focused in faith-life”, Bishop insisted.

“Through pastoral well-being, priests are responsible for providing for and nurturing the life of the faith community. They should know and respect the people whom they serve. As appropriate to their office, they should celebrate the sacraments with decorum”, Bishop added.

“The servant leadership of the priest should lead, lives to mercy, forgiveness, solidarity and humility which in turn awakens the hearts of people to God”, said Henry Bishop D’Souza.

Bishop appealed to lay faithful particularly young men and women to commit themselves for the service of the church and the society.

Bishop Henry D’Souza thanked God for the new priest and deacons and urged the lay faithful to love, respect and cooperate with their pastors to build a vibrant Church.

The solemn celebration was attended by large number of priests, religious and lay faithful of the diocese.
