Over Ten Thousand School Children To Support Pope’s “World Our Common Home”

altBELLARY, JULY 22, 2015: Over ten thousand school children of Bellary join “Green Pope” Francis’ call to make the “world our common home” through an awareness programme organized by the Diocese of Bellary.

Pope Francis’s much acclaimed Encyclical Laudato Si is on the care of the “world our Common Home”. Released on 18 June, 2015, the Pope powerfully draws the attention of the world to the urgent need of addressing the environmental challenges.

Inspired by the Pope’s initiative, we the Catholic schools of Ballari in collaboration with the Ballari District Administration and the District Forest Department will together organize CLEAN – GREEN BALLRI campaign at 9.00 am on July 25 at St. Philomena’s School premises.

Sri B. Ramanath Rai, H’ble Minister for Forests and Environment, Govt. of Karnataka will be the Chief Guest.

Religious leaders Bishop of Bellary Henry D’Souza, Swami Jaya Basava Swamiji and Sri Khazi Ghouse Siddiqi will give messages and bless the event.

The programme is aimed to sensitize the school children, who will be tomorrow’s adult citizens.

Over ten thousand children have already participated in the preparatory class wise group events such as Quiz on Environment (Common answer entered after discussion), Class Poster on Clean-Green Ballari and Slogan contest (Five slogans, each not exceeding 10 works in English and Kannada languages.

The school children, animated by the class teachers and school managements have participated in the events enthusiastically.

The 25th programme will include public pledge by the students to protect environment, planting of 2,000 saplings and prizes for winners in the competitions.
