altBELLARY, 30 JULY 2015 (Sagaya):  Bishop along with the diocesan priests and superiors of religious houses in the diocese participated enthusiastically in the two-day seminar on “Liturgy and Life” held on July. 29-30, at Dheeksha Bhavan Minor Seminary.

Fr. Dr. Joseph Lionel, professor and scholar in Liturgy, of the clergy of the Diocese of Thanjavur animated the sessions.

Bishop Henry D’Souza in his welcome address urged to “celebrate in a proper, effective and relevant manner”.

“In order to promote a full, conscious and active participation in the liturgical celebration, all ministers and faithful are invited to celebrate the liturgy, with due sense of the sacred and of beauty and with joyfulness, leading to a personal and communitarian encounter with God and transformation of life”, stated Bishop.

Care should be taken to observe the prescribed norms in order to maintain the dignity and decorum of the celebrations. The holiness of the priest is the leaven of the liturgical celebration” reminded Bishop D’Souza.

He urged all priests and religious to impart “extensive and regular liturgical catechesis to help the faithful to participate actively in the liturgy and allow the transforming power of the liturgy to flow into their lives”.

The two-day seminar was aimed at learning the deeper meaning of the liturgy we celebrate, ways of catechizing people about God experience in liturgy and learning the arscelebrandi.

Fr Lionel, in the light of Holy Father Pope Francis encyclical “EvangeliI Gaudium”, deliberated on many pastoral issues pertaining Liturgy and Sacraments.

Fr. Lionel also dealt with the list of Grave Abuses and Reprobated Practices identified by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

The participants celebrated meaningfully vespers and Holy Eucharist on both the days.

At the conclusion Fr. Gnanapragasam T, the Chancellor and Rector of the Bellary Arogya Mathe Shrine thanked all those present. Vicar General Fr. Paul Raj facilitated.
