altBallari, 13 Nov. 2016: Bellary Arogya Mathe Shrine (Our Lady of Good Health) was officially declared Diocesan Shrine on Sunday, November 13 by Bishop Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary.

The celebration coincided with the concluding ceremony of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy

Earlier Bishop D’Souza had promulgated a Decree on the Solemnity of All Saints day, Nov.1, officially announcing the elevation as the diocesan shrine.

Large gathering of faithful from various parts of the city and elsewhere witnessed the occasion.

Fr. Ganapragasam T, rector of the shrine presented the decree and showed it to the people. There was great rejoicing and the pilgrims gathered responded - “Thanks be to God, Praise the Lord!”

Decree was promulgated at the request of the shrine rector and unanimous recommendation from the Council of Priests.

The shrine was dedicated on September 8, 2000 on the occasion of the great Jubilee Year of Redemption and golden jubilee year of the erection of the Diocese.

The much popular shrine was built under the leadership of the then Bishop of Bellary, Most Rev. Joseph D’Silva.

Bishop D’Souza gratefully recalled late Bishop Joseph D’Silva, the founder of the shrine who had a great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He also thanked the former rectors, namely Frs. Anthonyraj and Chourappa Y. for their dedicated services.

Also, Bishop remembered with gratitude the priests and religious priests and sisters and donors who served at the shrine.

The shrine has become a popular, attracting pilgrims both among Christians and people of other faiths alike from far and wide.

Every year thousands of pilgrims of various religions visit the Shrine and many experience miracles.

It is situated at Cantonment, Bellary, close to VIMS (Vijayanagara Institutute of Medical Sciences).

It can be reached by train and bus. It is about two and a half kilometers away from both the Bellary railway station and bus stand.
