altBELLARY, NOV.13:┬á Amidst a large gathering of the faithful, Bishop Henry D’Souza concluded the Extraordinary Year of Mercy on 13th November at St. Antony’s Cathedral, Cowl Bazaar, Bellary.

The ceremony solemnly concluded with a two days renewal retreat at the Dharmodhya  Ashram and a concelebrated Eucharistic celebration.

Later in the evening, to mark the event, Bellary Arogya Mathe Shrine was declared as the Diocesan Shrine.

The Bellary Arogya Mathe Shrine was dedicated on the occasion of the great Jubilee of Redemption in 2000 under the leadership of then Bishop of the Diocese – Bishop Joseph D’Silva.

Bishop Henry, Bishop of Bellary urged the faithful to experience true moments of encounter of the Mercy of God and share the same in their families and society.

Merciful God forgives and unites us to Him without any limit or condition. The Bishop exhorted the people to appreciate and accept Divine Mercy and extend the same to families and to the larger society, ushering in a new era of kindness and compassion.

The Vicar General Fr. Paulraj facilitated the entire celebrations.

Simultaneously the concluding ceremony took place the various churches in all the deaneries designated by Bishop.

The churches designated were: St. Antony’s Shrine at Bandihatti, St. Francis of Assisi Church at Jawelgera, Sacred Heart Church at Mudgal, St. Francis Xavier Church at Raichur, Infant Jesus Church at Gangavati and Sacred Heart church at Hospet.

Catholics observed the yearlong celebration with spiritual programmes such as 24 hours Eucharistic adoration for world peace, renewal retreats, pilgrimages, community celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, prison ministry and other charity acts.

During the Year of Mercy, the diocesan committee for Prison Ministry regularly visited the Bellary Central Prison on several occasions to interact with the inmates and pray with them.
