School Girls March For Elimination Of Violence Against Women

altBALLARI, DEC 1: St. Philomena’s Pre-University College students observed International Day for the elimination of violence against women on 26 November at Ballari.

Over 1300 school girls along with their teachers and managers marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum.

It was organized to show their solidarity with 30 million girls and women who are illicitly trafficked.

The event began with prayer service at the college premises followed by silent protest rally carrying placards with strong messages in the main streets of Ballari city.

The rally proceeded from Infantry road, where St. Philomena’s College  is situated, going through Vidya Nagar, Cantonment, Kumara Swamy Temple, SP Circle, Basavana Kunte,  Over Bridge, Moti Circle, Station Road and ended at the  District Commissioner’s  Office.

altThey submitted a memorandum with a set of recommendations on issues relating to safety of women in private and public places. 

It helped in sensitizing the school children and the public, giving them gave a strong message on the need of ending violence against women.

“It also reaffirmed the belief that gender – based violence is never acceptable. Women and girls have the right to live free from violence and our country will be stronger when community is safe”, said the college principal Sister Shantha, rgs.
