BALLARI, JAN 10: Daya Nilaya Convent of Deena Sevana Sisters (DSS) was blessed by Bishop Henry D’Souza and opened by Sr. Daniela, DSS, superior general along with the provincial superior Sr. Georgia DSS at Amaravati today.

Attached to the Abhaya Home for special children affected by HIV/AIDS, the convent is a newly erected foundation in the diocese.

Welcoming the Sisters, Bishop stated, “Abhaya Home and the Daya Nilaya Convent are a blessing to the diocese of Bellary in the new year”.

Bishop emphasised on the need of caring for children who are differently abled, mentally challenged and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Abhaya India is sponsoring over 250 children from economically poor and socially backward sections of the society through distant adoption by sponsor parents in Belgium.

The programme is headed by Kathelijne Ritzen in Belgium and directed by Fr. Arokianathan in Bellary.

The Abhaya Home is being built under the supervision of Fr. Francis Bashyam and is expected to house over 75 disadvantaged children, when completed.

Bishop thanked and lauded the Abhaya India donors for their generosity and Fr. Arokianthan for the hard work in building the Abhaya Home.

The inauguration was followed by the thanksgiving Eucharist presided over by the Bishop.

Many priests, religious men and women and local people participated in the event.

The programme ended with a fellowship meal.
