AMARAVATHI, TB DAM/ HOSPET, 10 AUG 2017:  Abaya Home for the special children was blessed and declared open on August 10 in Amaravati village, T.B. Dam, near Hospet town.

Bishop Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary blessed the new building and dedicated it to the special children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

President of JSW Mr. Rajshekhar Pattana Shetty declared the new home opened.

In his address, Bishop Henry D’Souza said, “Children are our future and our treasure.  They are to be tenderly cared for and prepared for the future.”

He regretted that special children who are either infected or affected or differently able are often neglected and even stigmatized in the society today” and it is our bounden duty to care them showing God’s unconditional love.

Situated amidst a scenic beauty surrounding Abhaya Home is indeed a blessing to the Diocese of Bellary. It is just about a kilometer away from the Tungabhadra Dam, Hospet and 10-15 kms to the World Heritage site Hampi.

Abhaya Home was financially supported by the Financially supported by Abaya India, a children’s sponsorship programme headed by Kathelijne Ritzen in Belgium and directed by Fr. Arokianathan in Bellary. Bishop lauded their work and thanked JSW-CSR for financial support and Fr. Francis B. for carefully supervising the construction work.

The children’s home will be run by the DSS Sisters, who have started their new convent at the beginning of this year.

Many dignitaries, priests, religious men and women and local people participated in the event.
