RAICHUR, SEP 6, 2017:Hundreds rejoiced the dedication of the renovated and extended church at Sirwar, Raichur district.

Bishop Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary dedicated Holy Cross Church for the glory of God and worship purposes.

In his homily the Bishop reminded “the majesty of the Church building is a symbol of the Spiritual temple which is built by living stones the souls of the faithful”

Sirwar Mission was started in the year 1979 with Rev.Fr. Charles D Souza as its first parish priest. It constituted a few villages of Kowtal and Hutti parishes. Earlier in 1979 Fr. Charles resided in a mud hut and portion of the hut was used as a chapel.

Later Church building was built and blessed by Bishop Joseph D’ Silva on 2nd December 1996 when Fr. N. A. Vincent was the Parish Priest.

Rev.Fr. Arogyanathan, the present Parish Priest has taken up the much needed renovation and extension of Holy Cross Church, Sirwar in 2016. Everybody appreciated his dedicated service to this Mission. There are around 850 Catholics in Sirwar Parish.

A new school( Holy Cross School)  was started at Sirwar in 2010 to cater the educational needs of local Catholics and others by Fr. Sam Nalan.

Many priests, religious and lay faithful joyfully witnessed the occasion.

Sisters of the Charity (S.C.C.G) serve this mission since 1979. They involve themselves in the medical, social development and educational mission.

Rev. Fr. Arogyanathan gratefully recalled with gratitude the services of the pioneers Rev. Frs. Charles D Souza, N.A. Vincent, M.A. Alphonse, Arulaiah, Sma Nalan  who served in this parish and honoured them at the occasion. He also thanked the donors, well wishers and all those present at the occasion.
