160 year old Renovated Assumption Church Rededicated at Bellary:

A good number of faithful, priests, members of Religious communities & well-wishers joyfully witnessed the blessing and rededication of the renovated Assumption Church in Cantonment, Bellary at 4.00p.m on 05th Jan, 2025.

Located near Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Science (VIMS), near Bellary Cantonment Railway Station, Assumption Church stands as a land mark of Bellary City. The historical monumental church was blessed, rededicated. To mark the event Sri Bharath Reddy MLA, Bellary (City) , Sri Nandeesh,Mayor,Belary City Corporation , Smt Rajeswari, Ex Mayor, Sr Lily FS and many other esteemed dignitaries were present. Most Rev. Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary declared it open.

The renovated church building was inaugurated by Most Rev. George Antonyswamy , Archbishop of Madras –Mylapore, during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations on 28th November, 2024. It was blessed, consecrated and rededicated by Most Rev. Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary on 5th Jan,2025 the 125th death Anniversary of SoG Francis Xavier Kroot , MHM, the founder of the Congregation of Our Lady Fatima, which was founded in Bellary. He was a Chaplain for Bellary Mission for 6 years and resided in the presbytery attached to the Church.

160 years back it was consecrated Rt. Rev. John Fennelly, Archbishop of Madras, when Rev. Fr. Patrick Doyle was the Military Chaplain of British Military command at Bellary. The Church was designed and constructed by British Military Engineers with lime and mortar. Even today its structure stands as a landmark in the history of Bellary city. The church is totally redone, keeping intact the same architecture .

On this occasion, CDC Karnataka, POPF, The Catholic Diocese of Bellary, Congregation of Our Lady of Fatima and other donors were gratefully recalled for their financial support to this major renovation.

This Assumption Church will also be a significant place in the promotion of the cause of sainthood to S o G FX Kroot. The Fatima Sisters will be happy to promote the cause of their founder who resided for a time in this very place.
