158-year old Christ Church at Ramgad rebuilt and rededicated Ramgad:

Bellary District: 28 FEB 25

The newly built Christ Church at Ramgad village of Sandur Parish, Bellary diocese was blessed and rededicated by Bishop Henry D’Souza on Feb. 28. Many parishioners from Sandur , Devgiri and a large number of villagers of Ramgad attended blessing.

The Christ church, built in 1867 was a place of worship for many British officers, Medical officers and their assistants. There was a British sanatorium in Ramgad village for the people of Bellary and its surrounding areas. Priests from Bellary town served Ramgad Church and the sanatorium. Among them Fr Patrick Doyle, from Ireland was a renowned priest. He is called the modern apostle of Bellary Mission. He served this mission for 40 long years. Fr John Hogan OFM, who later became the first Bishop of Bellary diocese was another pioneer of this mission.

It was rebuilt and dedicated by Bishop Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary. Following the blessing and rededication of Christ Church, a felicitation program was held to honour the services and collaboration provided by Frs. Yagappa, Ivan Pinto, O. Vincent, Alphonse George, and Vasant Kumar, the parish priest of Sandur, as well as the SMMI Srs of Sandur, Ms. Mary Ignatius, Johnson of Ramgad, Ms. Lourd Sagayam, Mrs. Rupa Lad, and other local leaders who helped during the building of the church. Mrs Roopa Lad and parishioners of Sandur sponsored the fellowship meal.
