Bellary Diocese marks the opening of the Ordinary Jubilee Year:
Bellary: 29 Dec. 2024.

Diocese of Bellary marks the opening of the Ordinary Jubilee Year of the Universal Church by opening the door at St Antony’s Cathedral, Bellary followed by concelebrated Holy Eucharist on Sunday, the 29th December, 2024.

A Solemn procession with the special Jubilee Cross, that started from St Joseph’s Co-Education School grounds, Cowl Bazaar to St Antony’s Cathedral at 7.15 a.m proceeded to the concelebrated Holy Eucharist.

The importance of Jubilee and the meaning of the Logo were explained at the occasion. At a short preparatory service, Bishop Henry D’Souza , Bishop of Bellary, quoting St. Paul urged the community to march ahead in hope, and declared, “This hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners” (Rom 5:5-6).

In his homily, the Bishop invited everybody throughout the jubilee year to strengthen family bonds through family prayer, meditation on the word of God and undertaking family pilgrimages. He stressed on the need of promoting proclamation of the Good News, ecumenical and inter-religious relationships.

The historical and artistic jubilee cross has been placed in the Cathedral for veneration throughout the Jubilee year.

Jubilee is the time for repentance and renewal of oneself. Visiting places of pilgrimage, doing acts of Mercy, participating in the sacrament of reconciliation are some of the acts proposed during the year of Jubilee.

A special prayer card was released at the end of Eucharist, which will be prayed during the Eucharist, throughout year.
