A brief history of the parish
The Bishop of Bellary formally invited the Capuchins of the Holy Trinity Province, Karnataka, to open a house in the Diocese. The Capuchins took up Pothnal mission on 5th June 1994, which was a part of the Jawalgera Parish. Friars Gerald Lobo and Mark Saldanha were the pioneers of this mission. Since it was a new mission with no infrastructure, the priests had to stay in the CCFT Centre for two years. The Capuchins began their residence and carried their Mission work on the land given by the Diocese. The new house and the Church were blessed by the Bishop Joseph D'Silva, and inaugurated by Provincial Minister,Fr. Remegius Sequeira OFM Cap, on 21st March 1996. In the course of time the Capuchin Friars also started a seminary for their Post Novitiateat Pothnal.
