Bishop Henry, Bishop of Bellary dedicated year 2019 as the Year of Youth in the Diocese of Bellary at Midnight Mass on the New Year Mass at Christ the King Church, Cantonment, Bellary.

In a symbolic gesture the Bishop and various representatives of the community watered a plant to ensure the commitment in the service of the youth ministry in the diocese.

"Caring for our common home Earth" is the theme taken for the year of youth. It is in the background of the recent Synod on Youth held in Rome that the diocese has dedicated the year. Bishop Henry D'Souza was also a Synod Father at Rome in October, 2018.

The Year of Youth was launched after due consultation with the Diocesan Pastoral Council, Council of Priests and the College of Consulters.

During the homily the Bishop urged everybody to promote clean, green and plastic free India.

He also appealed talented youth to join Public Service such as Politics, Civil Administration, Business, Media and Entertainment in order to build up the better just society.

The Diocesan Youth Commission Secretary, Rev. Fr. Prem Kumar OFM along with members of the commission has drawn a year plan to facilitate the activities in the year.

It is decided that each Parish Priest should visit every youth of his parish to know their aspiration and problems and fourth Sunday Mass to be celebrated Youth Mass accompanied by sessions of Youth Cat.

Bishop also appealed to all priests, religious and the lay faithful not to offer shawls and garlands at receptions and functions. Instead to offer TWO plants, one for the Bishop and guests to take away and the other to be planted in the church/institution premises.

This is to reflect our strong commitment to environmental protection and caring for earth, our common home.
