First English Medium PU College In Devadurga Opened

DEVADURGA, AUG. 22: Don Bosco P. U. College and it's new building were blessed and inaugurated by the Bishop on Aug. 22 at Devadurga.

The Devadurga Mission under the pastoral care of the Salesians of Don Bosco has been providing pastoral care to the many sub-stations and promoting quality education in Devadurga.

The new PU College will have science and commerce sections.

Congratulations to Fr. K.C. Mathew and teams of priests and sisters for the excellent work.

Clergy Meeting And Study On The Joy Of Love Held

BALLARI, AUG. 19: A clergy meeting of the pastoral clergy and a day of study of the Pastoral Exhortation- The Joy of Love was held on August 18-19, 2016 at St. Anthony's Centre, Bellary.

The pastoral clergy attended the day-long clergy meeting which discussed on the activities of the diocesan pastoral commissions, the liturgical practices, liturgical language and pastoral matters.

The study sessions on Amoris Laetitia were animated by Frs. Sagaya John, Arul Raj csc and Lourdswamy T.

Pope Francis Leads The World Youth Day Celebrations

KRAKOW, AUG. 1: Pope Francis led the Catholic youth of the world during World Youth Day celebrations July 26-31 at Krakow, Poland.

Over 2 million Catholic youth from 187 countries participated in the global event.

The theme was: "Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy" (Mt 5:7).

"The youthful face of God's mercy can change the hearts of people who have lost hope", Pope Francis said in his inaugural message. A young person who is touched by Christ is "capable of truly great things," the Pope told the mammoth gathering of youth at Blonia Park.

On the final day over 2 million youth participated in the open air Mass at Campus Misericordia.

The city of Krakow was veritably turned into a youth capital of the world. The youth made pilgrimages to the holy sanctuaries such as Jasna Gora of Black Madonna, the Divine Mercy Shrine and the Shrine of St. John Paul II.

Over 1000 youth from India participated along with Telesphore Cardinal Toppo, Archbishop Abraham Viruthakulangara and Bishop Henry D'Souza.

First House Of St.Anns Sisters Of Phirangipuram Opened In Ballari

BALLARI, SEP. 23: Mr. Ivan D'Souza, Chief Whip of Karnataka Government in State Legislative Council and Member of Karnataka Christian Development Council briefed the public about Govt. schemes for Christian community at Ballari today.

While addressing a large number of Christian leaders and citizens at St. Antony's Community Center, Ivan strongly encouraged leaders of the community and the department staff to take up initiative at all levels to sensitise regarding the Government schemes available for the benefit of the community and to utilize them fully.

The awareness program was conducted by District Officer, Dept. of District Minority and Backward Class welfare Department.

Mr. Suresh Babu, the director welcomed the gathering. And a power point presentation regarding the available schemes was made on the occasion.

Christian Development Council members Anil Redson, Y. Anand, Bhaskar Prashant, Zilla Panchayat member Allam Prashant and Deputy Mayor Basavaraj were present at the occasion.

The United Christian Forum of Bellary was represented by Fr. Paulraj, vicar general and CSI area chairman Rev. Gona Emmanuel and Pastor Gunalan on the dais.

Mr. D'Souza also recommended that instead of Minority Council it would be better to have Christian development Corporation as is the case in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

He also invited the local Christian leaders to promote political representation/ leadership in the district.

Sri Ivan D Souza and other Minority Council members visited various churches and institutions like Christ the King Church at Cantonment, Sacred Heart Church, Fort, Telugu Church, Trinity Church and St. Antony's Cathedral also St. Joseph's Boys' School, C.B. Ballari.

Local parish priests, religious communities and heads of institutions enthusiastically participated in the programme.

Fr. Maxim Dias, Diocesan PRO and Director, St. Antony's Community Center facilitated the programme.

Office bearers of Catholic Association of Ballari (CAB) Gerald Valentine, Raju Balraju, Suby Mathew and others helped in organizing the program.

Earlier on Sep. 20 MLC Ivan D'Souza addressed the public at St. Mary's Hall, Raichur where the programme was facilitated by Fr. Leo Michael and Benjamin John.'
